I, along with many of my friends growing up, learned to swim at the Franklin Pond. I can remember very vividly taking swimming lessons and a lifeguard by the name of Frank Virtue(later was my high school gym teacher) very patiently tried to get me to swim to the raft; that was how you got your swim certificate. I was a little afraid at first, but eventually I did swim to the raft. In 1991 the beach was closed after high bacteria counts were found in the water. The borough of Franklin has reported that due to restoration work of the pond area and, most importantly, after the latest results of the water the pond is within safe standards for swimming. The Franklin Pond is now officially open for swimming. Lifeguards are on duty every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor day. A badge is required for anyone wanting to swim there; a badge can be purchased at the borough municipal building at 46 Main Street. Cool off this summer at the Franklin Pond. It looks like the good old days are back at the Franklin pond.
