Today is National Cherry Pie Day. Although Blueberry Crumb is my all-time favorite, Cherry would be number two. Fruit pies or tarts (pasties) were most likely first made in the 1500s. Some credit the first cherry pie to Queen Elizabeth I and was first brought to America with the English settlers. According to the American Pie Council, the early colonists cooked pies long narrow pans calling them "coffins" like the crust in England.
