A judge has denied to dismiss the indictment against a Wantage man accused of running an illegal drug operation out of his home. Christopher Banta, 38, is facing up to 100 years in prison if convicted of the charges against him.
He was arrested in 2016 while working as an informant for New Jersey State Police on gang-related activity. Banta's attorney argued that his client was entrapped and he tried to get evidence suppressed but the judge didn't find either argument viable.
Banta's charges include first-degree leader of a drug trafficking ring, first-degree maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility, and varying degrees of possession of cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Banta's next court date is scheduled for Aug 27.
