A New Jersey man and his brother hit the jackpot when they found five Mickey Mantle baseball cards in their old collection.
The 76-year-old, John, and his brother, Ed, collected cards growing up and they gathered dust in their mother's attic for decades before it was moved to John's basement. They were prompted to look for the cards after John saw a newspaper ad of a 1952 Mickey Mantle card valued at $3.5 million.
They found five Mantle Topps cards in their collection, similar to one that sold for $2.88 million. Afterward they called Heritage Auctions, the company from the newspaper ad, to evaluate them.
Now the brothers are auctioning off the cards, with the best being valued at at $1 million.
If only the rest of us could be so lucky.
