A former Bloomfield High School teacher, coach, and Sussex County man was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting two boys. Leo Donaldson, formerly Leo Inglima, pleaded guilty to charges that included aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Last year his indictment of more than 30 charges accused the former cross-country and track coach of using his positions at the school to pressure male students into engaging in sex acts. One of the victims said that Donaldson threatened to kick him off the track team if he didn't comply.
The 32-year-old's lawyer asked for leniency because Donaldson was a victim of child abuse by two family members and developed mental illness that eventually led to him attempting suicide.
The judge said that Donaldson's past wasn't an excuse for his crimes.
