Vernon Township went almost six decades without a resident being named Queen of the Fair but that changed Sunday when Blake Harrsch was crowned. The last Miss Vernon to be chosen as queen was Gail Elizabeth Peckham in 1959.
It all started when the 17-year-old was prompted to enter the Miss Vernon pageant by a guidance counselor. The newly crowned queen is entering her senior year at Vernon Township High School and plans to study Spanish and English in college.
Harrsch's goal as the 2018 Queen of the Fair is to meet new people and put smiles on their faces.
