NJ Supreme Court: Dash Camera Footage Not Public Under Open Records Act

The Open Public Records Act won't get you access to everything, even dashboard camera footage. The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled 4-3 yesterday that private citizens aren't entitled to see the police recordings because they're related to criminal investigations.

The lawsuit prompting the ruling was filed by John Paff against the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office after a police officer allegedly sicced his dog on a woman four years ago.

The Supreme Court's verdict overturns a previous ruling by state appellate court that said the public had a right to see the footage.
