Newton Educator Nominated for Teacher of the Year

Newton art teacher Kate Del Vecchio is one of 21 educators nominated for the New Jersey's 2018 Teacher of the Year award. She teaches at Halsted Middle School, the same school where last year's county finalist teaches. 

Del Vecchio graduated from Mason Gross School of the Arts with a Bachelor's Degree and is working toward getting her Master's Degree in Educational Technology.This isn't the first time she's gotten recognition for her teaching. In 2014 she was the recipient of the Lynn Dodson Youth Art Month Award from the New Jersey Executive Board of Art Educators and the following year she received the Arts in Education Award.

The winner of the 2018 Teacher of the Year award will be announced in October.
