Vampire Facial Made Famous by Kim Kardashian Leads to HIV Scare

Customers of an Albuquerque spa are getting more than they bargained for after the New Mexico Department of Health told them to get tested for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Vampire facials involve taking the patients blood, extracting the plasma from it, and re-injecting it into the skin. When done correctly, the plasma is supposed to stimulate new skin and collagen.

Kim Kardashian made the bloody facials famous when she got one on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Earlier this year she said she regretted it and will never get one again.

The NMDOH discovered practices at the spa "that could potentially spread blood-borne infections" after a customer got an infection.

“It is very important that anyone who received a vampire facial or other injection related service at the VIP Spa in May or June of 2018 come to the Midtown Public Health Office for free and confidential lab testing and counseling.”
