An Andover family is fighting to keep their emotional support chickens after receiving a summons to appear in court. Meena Ganti and Barry Walsky own a pair of Buff Orpington hens that were reportedly adopted for their eggs because Ganti suffers from food allergies. However, the chickens have acted as emotional support pets for Ganti.
According to the New Jersey Herald, the couple received two previous violation notices for keeping chickens but Ganti was under the impression that the Township Committee was going to change the ordinance. Though the committee has discussed revising the ordinance in recent years, nothing has been amended.
