Andover Man Pleads Not Guilty; Call Chicken Charges "Frivolous"

An Andover man pled not guilty to zoning violation charges for keeping two chickens on his property. Meena Ganti and Barry Walsky own a pair of Buff Orpington hens that were reportedly adopted for their eggs because Ganti suffers from food allergies. However, the chickens have acted as emotional support pets for her.

Walsky reportedly called the charges "frivelous" and asked the judged to drop them but his request was denied. His case is now scheduled for a November 8th pre-trial conference.

The couple had received two previous violation notices for keeping the chickens but they were under the impression that the Township Committee was going to change the ordinance. Though the committee has discussed revising the ordinance in recent years, nothing has been amended.
