The cost of living is too high for many New Jersey residents. According to a new study, 38.5% of households in the state can't afford basic for survival, like food, housing and transportation.

United Way of Northern New Jersey released the United Way ALICE Report on Monday and some of the biggest findings were that health care, transportation, and child care are the three main culprits for cost increases among families and 1/3 of households headed by adults 45 to 64 years old can’t make ends meet.

The cost of basic needs for a single adult is $26,640 annually and a family of four with an infant and preschooler is priced at $74,748 annually. Sussex County's household survival budget is higher, at $29,160 for a single adult and $79,320 for a family of four.

The report also broke down poverty and ALICE statistics for every county in the state. See Sussex County's statistics below and read the NorthJersey.com story here.
