A Vernon man accused of attempting to murder a hiker in Wantage has been offered a plea deal. Phillip Tintle, who graduated from Vernon Township High School in 2008, allegedly robbed the 70-year-old victim and stabbed in the stomach.
Tintle reportedly has a history of mental illness and has been in trouble with the law in the past. He was charged in 2013 for starting the 2011 fire at Franklin Sussex Auto Mall that caused damage to over 30 cars.
Earlier this year a psychiatrist had determined that the 28-year-old was competent to stand trial for the attempted murder charge but he thinks Tintle was insane when the crime occurred.
The terms of the plea deal haven't been revealed but a decision regarding it will be made by the next hearing which is scheduled for November 28.
