After nearly 29 years with the Vernon Township Police Department, Chief Randy Mills will be retiring. He started with Vernon PD in 1990 as a patrol officer and worked his way up the ranks working in the detective bureau, then as sergeant, lieutenant, and finally Chief of Police in November of 2013.

Mills' replacement, chosen by Mayor Harry Shortway, will be Captain Dan Young. Young joined the department in 2000 and has served as sergeant and lieutenant before being promoted to captain in 2016. Young's tenure as Chief of Police will begin February 1, 2019.

Thank you Randy for your years of dedication to the township and congratulations Dan!
