Man Pleads Guilty in Vernon Crash that Killed Father of 2

On Wednesday, November 28 a North Yonkers man admitted to causing a fatal crash in Vernon. Matthew Heyman is facing up to four years in prison after he pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

The 27-year-old was driving on County Route 565 on January 29, 2016 when he crossed over the double yellow center lines, causing a head-on collision. 

The crash killed Robert Ritter Jr. of Greenwood Lake, New York. The father of two was only 48 years old.

Heyman's blood-alcohol level was reportedly .17 at the time of the crash which is more than double the legal limit. He told the responding officers that he "had a few beers and shots" before driving.

His sentencing is currently scheduled for April 5, 2019.
