Over a dozen residences at Brookside Terrace Apartments are uninhabitable following the 10th floor fire that broke out early this morning, December 12. The blaze at the Newton apartment complex was reported shortly after 7 a.m. this morning and responding fire departments extinguished the flames within an hour of their arrival.

Eight people were brought to the Newton Medical Center for treatment of various medical issues including respiratory and diabetic issues, seizures, and a leg injury.

Though they were able to find the origin, the firefighters could not determine the cause of the incident at this time. Due to water and smoke damage, thirteen apartments are currently unfit to live in.
