Newton Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Ex with Knife

A Newton man was arrested after allegedly entering his ex's home without permission and threatening her with a knife. John E. Menzies was arrested on Saturday, December 8 and charged with terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have weapons. 

The 50-year-old reportedly went to his ex's apartment and asked for a soda. The unidentified female let him in and after awhile he left. Later that same day he returned and asked again for soda but this time she denied him entrance. Menzies reportedly walked into the apartment, went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. He then threatened the woman. 

Menzies is reportedly a registered sex offender. He pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child/sexual acts to a child in both 1992 and 2001. In both of those incidents he was sentenced to non-custodial probation.
