Meteorologist Fired After On-Air Racial Slur

A meteorologist at WHEC-TV in Rochester has been fired after using a racial slur on-air. The incident occurred on Friday, January 4 when Jeremy Kappell was talking about Martin Luther King Jr. park during a broadcast. Many people were outraged about his use of a racial slur while others believe Kappell fumbled over his words and said it unintentionally.  

Kappell confirmed on Twitter that he was let go from the station after Mayor Lovely Warren and City Council President Loretta Scott called for the him to be fired. Kappell also tweeted that he has asked to be able to air an apology and explanation.
