Sussex County saw an increase in fatal car accidents in 2018. Accidents last year killed 12 people, an increase from 7 fatalities in 2017. According to the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, 10 of the people killed were drivers while the other two were a passenger and a pedestrian.
While Sussex County saw an increase, crash fatalities decreased overall in New Jersey. The New Jersey Herald reports that 566 people died as the result of car accidents last year, a 9.3 percent decrease from the year before.
