A former security guard for High Point Regional High School has lost his appeal of the dismissal of a lawsuit he filed in 2017. Anthony Daniels accused school officials of demoting him to part-time and creating a new $63,000-a-year security director job so they could hire a friend.

Daniels had applied for the job but the position was filled by Kevin Craig, a retired police chief.

A two-judge appeals panel decided that Daniels failed to take steps to qualify for protection under the whistleblower law and that even if the allegations he made were true, it didn't violate any specific public policy.
