Hopatcong's Hudson Maxim School got an earlier closure date than anticipated due to a leak under the gym floor. The leak reportedly caused the floor to buckle and attempting to fix the issue would cost an estimated $50,000 with no guarantee that it would work.

The school was closed on Friday and for the remainder of the year kindergartners and first-graders will be housed at the middle school while preschoolers and multiple-disabled students will be at the high school.

Last month the Hopatcong Board of Education had unanimously voted to close the school and reconfigure the district after having over $600,000 cut from their state aid.
