A Mount Olive resident was scammed out of $1,500 after someone called her posing as a police officer on two separate occasions. According to the New Jersey Herald, the "police officer" told her she needed to send money in the form of Google Play gift cards to avoid being arrested.

The resident reported the incident to the Mount Olive Police Department on February 9. Now the police are urging residents to be aware of phone and internet scams.

If you think you're being targeted as part of a scam, contact the agency the caller is representing before sending them any money.
