A Sparta house fire that that occurred on Friday, February 22 is under investigation, according to the New Jersey Herald. The fire reportedly broke out after 3 p.m. and may have started in the garage of the home.
A neighbor across the street reportedly saw smoke, called 911, and helped the 86-year-old homeowner exit the house. The Sparta, Andover Township, and Ogdensburg fire departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Lt. John Lamon of the Sparta Police Department told the New Jersey Herald that "there is substantial damage to the home."
