Vernon has been threatened with legal repercussions over their enforcement of a dump ban on Silver Spruce Drive. According to the New Jersey Herald, Jeff Patti, the attorney for Joseph Wallace, is threatening the Vernon Police Department with legal action for enforcing a stop-work order on the alleged dump site.
The news comes after Patti agreed on Friday to abide by the dump ban and let state inspectors access Wallace's property to test the soil. Mayor Harry Shortway seems unfazed by the threats, telling the New Jersey Herald that the town will continue to enforce the ban.
An emergency hearing took place in Morristown on Friday and a consent order was issued by a judge. The order states that Wallace has 30 days to furnish a full accounting of the "source and nature of the material" he has brought onto his site since 2009. Additionally, he must "immediately cease receiving any and all fill material and/or solid waste onto (his) property" pending a full hearing.
