A New Milford fourth-grader beat out 100 other kids in a spelling competition on Thursday to become champion of the North Jersey Spelling Bee. According to NorthJersey.com, Jeremiah Markose of Berkley Street Elementary School and Srivarenya Vempati of B.F. Gibbs Elementary School were the only two students left in the competition after six rounds.
Markose went on to win after correctly spelling atelier, a French word that means workshop or studio. In May, he will head to National Harbor, Maryland to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
