The former treasurer/secretary of the now-disbanded Swartswood Volunteer Fire Department who admitted to stealing $75,000 from the group over several years has been sentenced. According to the New Jersey Herald, Tami Richardson was sentenced to 210 days in the county jail, a shorter sentence than her plea deal called for.
The judge said the shorter sentence was "in light of her age and absence of a lengthy prior record." In addition to jail time, Richardson will have to pay nearly $74,000 in restitution to the Board of Trustees
The 53-year-old reportedly created five bank accounts under the fire department's name and used the department's debit card at stores like Home Depot, Weis Markets and Warehouse Clearance Center.
