A Fredon man that admitted to stabbing a Stillwater man six times has been sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday, April 18. According to the New Jersey Herald, Kyle Chirip is required to serve 85% of his sentence and was given credit for 617 days he spent in the county jail since being arrested.
His attorney, George Daggett, previously alleged misconduct by the prosecutor's office and almost withdrew his client's plea but later decided against it. Daggett reportedly plans to appeal his client's sentence and focus on post-conviction relief.
At sentencing Chirip allegedly said he "may have overreacted" but he stabbed the victim because he needed to "defend himself."
