A Jeep burst into flames on Route 15 yesterday afternoon, April 24, after the driver smelled smoke under the back seat. According to the New Jersey Herald, Officer Phil Longo saw Laura Mott, of Lafayette, pull her blue Jeep over near mile marker 10.5 and he stopped to assist her.
The car reportedly caught fire soon after and was quickly engulfed in flames. According to Mott, the fire started in the rear passenger seat/door area of her 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Sparta Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze and the cause of the fire is currently undetermined but police said it may have been "electrical in nature."
