A woman that allegedly set her Newton apartment on fire in 2011 remains in a psychiatric facility. According to the New Jersey Herald, Alice Gasperment was acquitted by reason of insanity and was diagnosed with chronic paranoid schizophrenia.

The 73-year-old is reportedly undergoing intensive treatment and in a report, her doctor said she is in remission but needs to be monitored closely. The judge overseeing her hearing said there "remains a danger of discharge to an unsupervised setting" and the assistant prosecutor said in the future they would explore placing Gasperment in a group home, if the court allows.
