Suspicious Activity in Newton Led to Lockdown of Halsted Middle School

Halsted Middle School students were released from school at 3:36 p.m. following a lockdown earlier today, May 7. According to the New Jersey Herald, the lockdown occurred because a suspicious individual or individuals were in the area, possibly with weapons.

Parents were reportedly alerted about the lockdown around 3 p.m.

The New Jersey State Police, Newton Police, Sussex County sheriff's officers, Hardyston Police and the Sussex County Fire Marshal's office responded to the scene.
