The semi-annual DWI ticket blitz starts this week in New Jersey and will run through September 3. According to NJ.com, more than 100 police departments, including four in Sussex County, are receiving overtime grants from the state’s Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

Franklin Borough, Hopatcong, Sparta, and Vernon police departments are each receiving $5,500 of the $540,000 grant money.

Police officers across the state reportedly made 1,196 DWI arrests, issued 4,764 speeding violations, 3,194 seat belt violations and ticketed 1,490 drivers for cell phone or texting violations during last summer's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
