Alleged Vernon dump operator Joseph Wallace has been sentenced to jail time for municipal violations. According to NJ.com, on Wednesday Wallace was sentenced to spend 90 days in the Sussex County Jail and fined $58,500.

Wallace, who the judged reportedly deemed a flight risk, was found guilty of 52 of the 82 zoning violation summonses that Vernon officials took him to court over. He was found not guilty for seven and the rest were merged.

The jail sentence could be shortened to 30 days if Wallace suspends all of his dumping activities.

The 75-foot tall dirt and debris pile at Wallace's Silver Spruce Drive property tested positive for probable human carcinogens earlier this year.
