We could do better at keeping our cars clean

Memorial Day weekend is almost here and AAA says the number of people taking road trips of 50 miles or more is on the rise. That means we'll be spending more time in our cars so you'd think we would want them to be clean. However, a new Cumberland Farms survey says there's a good chance the inside of your car is pretty messy. Let's take a look.

When it comes to the inside of the car 34 percent of people said they only clean out their car once a season. 27 percent say they clean out their car if they know someone else will be getting in the car. Like for a road trip. 63 percent said they eat in their car everyday.  Imagine if we cleaned our kitchen only once a season.

We do better on the outside of our cars. 40 percent of us wash our cars once a month. 25 percent rely on the rain.

Here's my take on this.  This seems like it's a totally random situation.  When I was in college I cleaned out my car at the end of each semester and when I just couldn't stand it anymore. Things didn't get much better in my 20's because I had a long commute to work and ate in my car every day. I started to do a little better when I was able to buy new cars. There was more of an incentive to keep them nice. Today I'm pretty good about keeping my car clean.

Does it have to do with being young? Maybe, but when it comes to my family I have sons who are total opposites. They both drive vehicles they bought brand new. Jimmy's car is so clean you can eat off the floor.  On the other hand, anyone who ride's in Matt's truck knows the last 5 places he stopped to eat.

If you are going on a road trip this weekend be safe and have a great time!
