I love coffee. This grosses me out. A report published in Business Insider and the New York Post has revealed the hot water on an airplane could be pretty gross. The hot water comes from tanks, but flight attendants have no idea how often the tanks are actually cleaned.
The water in the tanks needs to meet EPA standards but the airlines are given plenty of leeway when it comes to how often the tanks themselves are cleaned. So anything made with the "mystery" hot water aboard the plane might not be a good idea to drink.
Flight attendants in the report say bottled water and soda are a much better choice than coffee or tea. Basically, they said they don't drink the water and you shouldn't either.
This is not good news for me. In about a month I'm flying to Los Angeles. No coffee for six hours on the plane is a real stretch. I'll have to get a large coffee before I get on the plane and drink bottled water on the flight. I guess it's better to know than not to know.
