According to a new survey by Sun Trust Mortgage 33 percent of Millennial home buyers were motivated to buy their first home because of their dog. They decided to start looking for their own home because they wanted a yard or just more space for their dog. Many millennials who weren't dog owners wanted to buy their own home so they could have a dog.
Dogs actually made it into the top three over all reasons for wanting to own a home. More living space and building equity were the only two reasons that were more popular than having or wanting a dog.
Getting married or wanting to start a family came in behind dogs in the survey.
You know at times I wonder about selling my house and down sizing in a few years. Then I think about how much I enjoy having a dog and my thoughts of selling go on the back burner. I wonder how many people are keeping their houses because of their dog?
