How cats help our mental health

Researchers and cat lovers know cats are very good at sensing our moods. All my life I've had cats and this is very true. Cats can also have a wide range of personalities. Some are very friendly and love people while others still like your attention but don't want to to know it. Here are some of the scientific ways cats are good for our mental health.

1. They boost our Serotonin levels. Which regulates our happiness and anxiety. Low levels of Serotonin have been associated with depression.

2. Cats also stimulate the release of Oxytocin. Another happiness chemical we produce.

I love all of my pets. Knowing they are happy and having a good life makes me feel good. So many dogs and cats need good homes. One person can't help all of them but as a pet owner at least I know I'm making a difference for the dogs and cats in my life.  I don't think it's just Serotonin and Oxytocin either.  Pets bring love into your life, make a home feel more like home and become family.
