The story of 16 year old Karnie Dechoian is very inspiring. She arrived in the United States just in time from Aleppo, Syria about a year and a half ago. Her family has been waiting 14 years to come to the United States. In Aleppo they always lived in fear because as Christians they were persecuted.
Since Karnie has been in the United States she has been a high honors student at Parsippany High School. She volunteers as a Sunday School teacher at the Armenian Church in Livingston. Karnie is also a champion varsity swimmer, a member of the marching band and plays violin for the Lakeland Chamber Symphony. She speaks 4 languages.
Since she is in French Honors Class she is hoping to travel to France with her school this spring. Next fall she plans to attend Rutgers University and major in Pharmacology.
