Both days this weekend I was broadcasting live at Stop and Shop in Sparta. Backpack Snacks for Kids was a big success. This is the third year we have done this and each year more and more listeners support us. Sussex County Department of Social Services staff was also there with us the entire weekend.
Schools in 5 Sussex County School Districts regularly benefit from the snacks donated. Several other districts reach out when there is a need. It all started with one school district a few years ago. This year Visions Federal Credit Union, Selective Insurance and Newton Medical Center.
I'm tired today after working all weekend but it was worth it. It always is. The troop of Girl Scouts from Frankford Township who filled a shopping cart with food for kids backpacks made my day on Sunday. Carol Novrit Director of Sussex County's Health and Human Service Department came over on Saturday. Her motivation to help others has inspired me for many years. First with Stuff the Bus and now with Backpack Snacks for Kids too.
It was also great to see my long time friend and fellow radio broadcaster Frank Garrity. Frank is a sportscaster on the NBC radio network these days. We met at Seton Hall University's Radio Station WSOU in 1980. We worked together at WSUS for most of the 1980's. I owe much of my success to his support in the early years of my career.
Joan Bruseo from the Sussex County Department of Social Services agreed with me on Sunday. No doubt this was the most successful Back Pack Snacks we've ever done. We filled a whole bus! Thank You so much everyone!
