Steve Andrews weekend in 5 pictures

This was my first weekend off in a few weeks.  Spring is when every home owner heads outside to get the home presentable after winter. This weekend just about all my time was spent on projects around the house.

Saturday was clean up day in Matamoras, Pennsylvania. If you live in the borough you can bring a car load of bulky was to the fire house and get rid of it for 10 dollars. I save up junk all year and wait for this day. I clean out my shed to add even more junk to the pile. It's seems every year I make room and we just wind up adding more floats and pool toys. By 11 o'clock on Saturday the shed was done, the junk was gone and I even found time to drive to Milford to get my new 5 year drivers license and photo I.D. The employees at our drivers license center are so polite and friendly. I was out in 10 minutes.

My next project was mowing the front lawn. It takes a while for all of my grass to grow in because of the rocky soil in my neighborhood. This winter we made it worse by parking on the grass to avoid having to move cars around in the driveway. I always love the way my lawn looks when it's mowed. Especially when the cherry blossom tree is in bloom. It's a shame the pretty pink flowers don't last long.  After mowing the lawn my stepson and his daughter played some baseball at Airport Park and I went along. After about an hour of warming up I started to play the field pretty good. Hitting will take a little more time.

On Sunday after church I went to my favorite garden store. Jeff's Garden World in Matamoras is a local treasure. He grows everything himself in his own local greenhouses. I plant after Mother's Day but you have to get to Jeff's early to get the best selection.  This year I'm going to try my usual Marketmore cucumbers,  Celebrity Tomatoes, and California Green Peppers. I'm also going to try broccoli again. Two years ago I grew fresh broccoli from seed and it was a lot of work. The plants I bought Saturday looked very strong so I'm hoping for a good harvest.  Then I put in a new mailbox in front of my house. The plows pretty much demolished the old one.

Finally, my son and I purchased a very nice gun safe Sunday afternoon. Liberty is one of the best brands you can buy. It took two of my sons, one of their friends and me to get it in the house. It's very strong.  Hopefully, it will last for many years and become a family heirloom.
