I always thought you had to have a clean driving record to get a job as a school bus driver. Now we're finding out 77 year old Hudy Mulrow Sr. had an atrocious driving record that included multiple suspensions and violations. His most recent suspension was last year for unpaid parking tickets. Video from the New Jersey Department of Transportation show the bus making an illegal u-turn on Route 80.
Mulrow remains in the hospital and has not commented. It's not clear if school officials in Paramus were aware of his driving record. So here is my fear. How many other people like Mulrow are driving school buses in New Jersey. How can you do a criminal background check and not check someone's driving record before allowing them to get behind the wheel of a school bus. The tragic accident killed a child and a teacher. Of course that is horrible but when you look at the circumstances this tragedy could have been much worse.
