Yesterday was to be the day for Build a Bear Workshop's "Pay your age day" promotion. Which would have been an incredible deal. Parents would only have to pay their child's age for stuffed animals. My daughter Kim knew about and was thinking about taking a trip to the mall to get my grand daughter a stuffed animal for 2 bucks.
I've gone to Build a Bear stores on two occasions. Once many years ago with Kim and last year with my grand daughter Gracie. When you go to Build a Bear you pay for the experience. The stuffed bear with the sewn in heart is secondary. The stuffed animal, the clothes and accessories get very expensive. When we went last year with Gracie it was 60 bucks. So, initially the bear might have been a few bucks but with the additional purchases a trip to Build a Bear yesterday would still have cost more than just your kids age.
As you would expect the response to "Pay your age day" was overwhelming. There was chaos and long lines at Build a Bear stores across the country. The company claims they did not anticipate such a huge response. In the end the promotion was cancelled.
Disappointed customers were encouraged to print out a 15 dollar gift certificate from Build a Bear's website instead of the promotion. As you can see my daughter got her's. Even though she decided not to go to the mall at the last minute.
