I hate ticks! Sometimes they get on me when I mow the lawn. It takes me a while to realize there's one or two on me. When they get on my dog Maddie it's even worse. She has a brindle coat and they're really tough to see. The ticks we have in the Northeast are miserable enough and now we have a new one.
The Longhorn tick has invaded 5 New Jersey counties and seems to be spreading. They were first discovered in the ear of a sheep in Hunterdon County. State Agriculture officials had to research what kind of ticks they were seeing. We haven't seen Longhorn ticks in Sussex County yet but it's a safe bet we will see them here soon.
They are native to Asia. It's believed they got here on a dog. What makes these ticks really nasty is they attack their hosts by swarming in one area. It sounds like they can do a lot of damage.
