The attorney for Michelle Ayala has taken the first step in the process toward filing a 1 million dollar lawsuit against the Borough of Franklin. Several weeks ago Mrs. Ayala was asked to "cover up" while breastfeeding and had the police called on her when she told borough officials she had a right to breastfeed her daughter in public. No charges were ever filed because there is no New Jersey law that requires moms who breastfeed in public to "cover up."
Administrator Allison McHose, Mayor Nicholas Giordano and Donna Vreeland a part time employee of the borough are named in the suit. The borough council went into executive session last night during it's regular meeting. It is believed the filing was the topic of discussion.
One potential resolution could be the borough's insurance company negotiating a monetary settlement before the actual lawsuit is filed by Mrs. Ayala's attorney Jason Guiliano.
