You have to feel sorry for the worker who thought they were helping someone from McDonald's Corporate office. Here's what happened: According to a press release from the Hackettstown Police Department the worker took a call from a man who claimed to be from the corporate office. The man told the worker to take over $1,000.00 from the safe so gift cards could be purchased to save people's jobs. The man then had a taxi drive the worker to a local store to purchase the gift cards. The worker then relayed the codes on the gift cards over the phone to the scammer and returned to work.
Police are warning people to beware of callers who demand an immediate payment. What I can't believe about this is that the employee would do all this for a person they did not know. The other question I have is who paid for the cab? Hackettstown Police continue to investigate.
