Andover Township Police are reporting an attempted child abduction in Andover Borough Monday afternoon. The incident happened right after the student got off his school bus and the bus drove away. A press release from the department says a young male student was approached by a white male who pulled up in a black Saturn Sedan and offered the student a ride. The student refused the ride and reported the incident to an adult when he got home. The adult called police.
The boy described the driver as a white male in his 20's or 30's with brownish red hair and a full bushy beard. Details of the incident were sent to all Sussex County school districts yesterday. Luring or enticing a child is always a felony in New Jersey. Anyone convicted of luring a child could face 5 to 10 years in prison for a first offense.
Parents should contact the New Jersey State Police or their local police department right away if they suspect any suspicious attempts to drive their children home.
