The Franklin Borough Fire Department had their annual spaghetti dinner this past Friday night and the proceeds from the dinner are missing. The New Jersey Herald is reporting Detective Nevin Mattessich confirmed that "a file has been opened."
According to the Herald a patrol was sent to the firehouse Friday night just before 9 o'clock after the money was discovered missing. Fire Chief Fred Babcock would only say "The matter is being handled internally."
The amount of money missing does not appear to be known at this time. What kind of person would take money from an organization that volunteers to save lives and protect property? Volunteer firemen and women spend hours training are are very dedicated to their community. At anytime of the day or night they can be called to a fire or car accident to save lives.
If it turns out this money was actually stolen the person who did it must have been pretty desperate. Very sad.
