After a close election, Phil Murphy began his second term as Governor of New Jersey this week. Meanwhile, the state's top elected Republican is calling on both parties to make New Jersey more "affordable." In a press release Tuesday afternoon Senate Republican Leader Steve Oroho said: " After the November election the Governor and legislative leaders of both parties said addressing affordability would be a priority. After all that talk it's time to show people some real action. Senate Republicans are ready to work." Oroho would like to see bi-partisan support for the following proposals:
1) A state income deduction for charitable giving.
2) A challenge of the unfair way New York taxes New Jersey residents
3) Revisiting pension and benefits reform to make the system more stable and affordable for New Jersey taxpayers.
4) Fixing the school funding formula so billions of dollars in state aid is distributed more equitably.
5) Enacting sick leave reform to end massive retirement payouts that blow up municipal budgets
