The Home for Hospice opened back in 2014 with 10 private rooms for terminally ill patients who can no longer be taken care of at home. As the founder of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Julia Quinlan as been an advocate for hospice care since the 1980's. Tomorrow Mrs. Quinlan will turn 95. In her honor the foundation she and her late husband started is hoping to raise $1 Million by the end of this month. Lakeland Bank has already started off the fund raising with a $100,000 donation. All of the money raised will go to provide care for people who do not have insurance to cover the cost of hospice. The hospice is named after Julia and Joseph's daughter Karen Ann Quinlan. Who died in 1985 after being comatose and unresponsive for 10 years. The Quinlan's went to court to have their daughter's respirator removed after doctors told them she was in a permanent vegetative state. Karen died five years later. Their advocacy for their daughter's "right to die" raised awareness across the country.
