My extended weekend was slightly interrupted because at the last minute I decided to come into work on Monday. So my "Weekend in Pictures" was postponed until today so I could give a complete update on everything that was going on. My major accomplishment was finishing the repair work on the trim of my shed. The shed next to my house is about 25 years old. Over the years I've tried to maintain it so I don't have to buy a brand new one. This spring I noticed 5 pieces of trim on the shed door were rotting and about to fall off. So I made this one of my long term summer projects. I had Lowe's custom cut all the wood I would need to exact sizes. Then primed and painted each piece. That step was done by July. Then I waited to get some assistance from one of my sons. I still needed to rip down the old trim and attach the new. Last weekend I also found an old Black and Decker drill in my boiler room. Yesterday morning I was wide awake at 6AM and decided not to wait any longer. I had my handy old drill with a Phillips Head tip and went to work. I'm not the best guy in the world with tools but with a little help from Kim's boyfriend the job is done. The eye sore next to my house looks much better.
My other major accomplishments were in the kitchen. My son Matt gave me some fresh right off the farm pork chops. Which became last nights dinner accompanied by fresh grilled green beans and Goya Spanish Rice. On Sunday I got a little creative with my favorite meal which is a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato. I made each open faced sandwich on a slice of hearty rye bread with one slice of thick cut bacon. Both dishes tasted as good as they looked in the pictures.
Every Sunday I go to the supermarket after church. I started taking my grandson with me several months ago. Now it's become one of the best parts of my weekend. This past Sunday he was about as cute as it gets when he took a little kid shopping cart and said: "grandpa where's your list." The other big event this extended weekend was Gracie's first day of first grade. I know my kids grew up fast. I guess grand kids do too. I hope you enjoy this weekend's pictures.
