It looks like another tragic drowning has happened in the Upper Delaware River. New York State Police responded to the river bank in Deer Park this past Thursday. They were called by a local fisherman who said the boat he was in with another fisherman had capsized. He made it to the shore in rough waters. The other fisherman with him is still missing. As of Saturday afternoon the search was continuing. Rescue teams from Sparrowbush, Port Jervis and Matamoras Fire Departments have been assisting in the search.
According to a story in The Mid Hudson News both of the men were class of 1992 graduates in Port Jervis High School. They set out to go fishing together in a brand new flat bottomed boat. When the rain swelled river water became rough the boat capsized. Both men made it to nearby Cherry Island. Then returned to the water to retrieve the new boat. One of them did not come back.
